When the bleep is our anniversary?

AJ is coming upon its fourth anniversary -- that is, it has been four years since the date of the oldest article you can find on the site (April 4, 2003 -- Simerican Idols.) But what very few people know is that I wrote a few articles prior to that. One was about 80's stuff, the other two were about American Idol. I wrote them, posted them... but the more I read them, the more I disliked them, and the more I realized they were not good starts for a website I hoped would be at least somewhat good (or tolerable). So I took them down and started over. (The AI ones were eventually edited and expanded to be included in an AJ article ("Loathing Kimberly") later that year; the former... well, a photo from it made it on the site about 2 years later. Hey, whatever's salvagable.) Those "false start" articles were published on the internet in February & March of 2003.

So February, March, April... when IS AJ's anniversary? I can never keep it straight. Let's just say April!

In other fascinating news, this is the latest tv-movie review...

The Brady Bunch In The White House

...and another should be coming soon, but I can make no promises. This is my spring break (more or less... I work at a school part-time, so I've only really gotten a break from that job), and I've spent a vast majority of it playing Sims 2. Which is awesome but addictive.

Now you can view the movies I've reviewed by date (of the review), the year the movie was made, or the genre. Your choice, hurray!

Also, on AJ's main page (www.alligatorjuice.com), on the very right side, you can now see the date of the last TV-movie update. I will be doing this from now on. With nearly 50 TV-movies reviewed so far, I have gotten tired of doing the Sunday updates, and will instead update the TV-movie section less regularly. I still have plenty more to talk about, I just won't be necessarily posting the reviews on Sundays.

New feature: The World's (Worst) News Network, aka WNN, a parody of local news shows and their tendency to always leave out important information, report on things nobody cares about, or say the most bizarre things. Gotta love em.

Featuring two animated shorts, animated by me (no tomato-throwing, please) and voiced by Kristen Kerouac and Scary-Crayon's Wes Dennis. :)

Funniest Afterschool Special ever, right here, folks -- Ace Hits the Big Time (1985), the story of a boy with an intense fear of gangs who wears an eye patch and... joins a gang... then gets cast in a movie about gangs... and then gets the girl. And did I mention it's a musical? It's SO bad it's good.

If anyone still wants to submit "stories" for this you have until midnight Thursday. I've decided the writers will be anonymous though. Who wants their name attached to "bad" writing? I'll find another way to credit anyone who participates. :)

ETA: The reign of Afterschool Specials is over... for now... the "Sunday" updates will resume soon.

Seeking Submissions: Absurd "News" Stories

Looking for original, creative, unpublished (not even on the internet!) "news" stories for an upcoming AJ feature. They should not only be made up (don't yoink from the real news, though that can be your inspiration) but they should come across as rather absurd or poorly written (but still funny to read).

Examples...

*A story about a serious topic (crime, accident) that completely leaves out some of the most important details and latches on to an entirely unimportant detail (ie what the victims were wearing, where they bought it, if they got it on sale, that sort of thing.)

*A story so pointless, the only way it'd make it into the newspaper or onto the news is if they were hard-pressed for stories (slow news day!) ie: "Local woman is proud of her rosebushes." Human interest, supposedly... but not very interesting.

or... ? Be creative.

Tips:

*The more absurd, the better.
*Misuse of words (ie homonyms) is fine.
*100-200 words suggested. 300 max.
*Do not use real names. If you want to do an article about a celebrity, change one or two letters in their name, or change their last name to something that rhymes with it.
*Keep it clean, G/PG-rated

Deadline: Thursday, 10/5/06
Mail to: MPSL27 -at- gmail.com
Please include the article in the body of your email, along with your name as you would like it to appear in the article.

I may not be able to use all submissions. I'll use what I can/the best ones. Credit will be given. Payment won't. Thanks!

Today's Afterschool Special is What Are Friends For?, a creepy film from 1980 about a friendship that's anything but ideal. And by that I mean OMG THIS GIRL IS INSANE. Enjoy!

ETA: For those who haven't noticed it, there is a new link on the main page (alligatorjuice.com) on the left side that says "AJ's Rad Item Of The Week." Each time I review a movie or show or game that can be purchased from amazon.com, I'll update this link so that when you click on it, it'll take you to that page on Amazon. Right now it links to a box set of Afterschool Specials. In the future, when you see a product that interests you, buy it through AJ to help support the site, if you please. :)
